What Is Pediatric Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy focuses on helping children develop the movement skills they need to participate fully in daily life — from crawling and walking to running, jumping, climbing, and playing alongside their peers.

  • Improve gross motor skills such as running, jumping, and climbing
  • Build core strength, balance, and postural control
  • Support coordination and motor planning
  • Address developmental delays in movement milestones
  • Assist recovery from injury, surgery, or medical conditions
  • Increase participation in school, sports, and daily activities

What Is a Pediatric Physical Therapist?

A pediatric physical therapist is a licensed professional who specializes in helping infants, children, and adolescents develop and improve their movement, strength, and functional abilities. In a pediatric setting, PTs use play-based, evidence-based approaches to help children reach their motor milestones, build physical confidence, and participate fully in the activities that matter most to them — and to their families.

How We Help

Gross Motor Development

We help children build the foundational movement skills needed for crawling, walking, running, jumping, and navigating their environment with ease and confidence.

Strength & Endurance

Targeted exercises and play-based activities build core strength, muscle endurance, and the physical stamina kids need to keep up with their peers.

Balance & Coordination

We address postural control, balance reactions, and bilateral coordination to help children move safely and efficiently in all environments.

Motor Planning & Praxis

We support children who struggle to sequence and execute physical movements — helping them feel more confident and capable in their bodies.

Injury & Post-Surgical Recovery

Our PTs guide children through safe, developmentally appropriate rehabilitation following injuries, orthopedic conditions, or surgical procedures.

Family Education & Home Programs

We equip parents and caregivers with strategies, exercises, and activities to support their child's movement goals between sessions and at home.

Our Approach

Child-Centered & Fun

Therapy is built around activities children genuinely enjoy. When movement feels like play, kids stay engaged - and progress happens naturally.

Individualized Treatment Plans

Every child receives a custom plan built around their unique strengths, movement challenges, and family priorities.

Evidence-Based Practice

We use proven, research-backed PT interventions to address gross motor, strength, balance, and functional mobility goals.

Family Partnership

Families are active participants in therapy, learning strategies to encourage movement and skill-building at home and in the community.

Collaborative Team

Our PTs work closely with OTs, SLPs, and therapy assistants to deliver coordinated, whole-child care.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you accept referrals, or can I self-refer?

We are happy to work with you directly. You can call us to set up an evaluation — referrals are not required unless your insurance plan requires one for coverage. We also collaborate with pediatricians, schools, and other providers as needed.

  • What ages do you serve?

We work with clients from infancy through young adulthood, supporting motor development at every stage.

  • How often will my child be in therapy?

Therapy frequency is customized based on your child's goals and your family's schedule. Many families start with 2x weekly sessions, which research supports as particularly effective for making progress in motor skills.

  • Will I get exercises and activities to do at home?

Yes! Home programs are a core part of what we do. We'll equip you with practical movement activities and strategies to support your child's progress between sessions.

  • Does my child need a diagnosis to receive PT services?

No diagnosis is required to begin an evaluation. If you have concerns about your child's movement, development, or physical abilities, we encourage you to reach out. Our PTs will assess your child and determine the most appropriate plan from there.

  • Do you work alongside other therapists?

Absolutely. Our PTs collaborate closely with occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists when children need support across multiple areas. We believe a coordinated team approach leads to the best outcomes.
